One of the most popular questions we get here at Parkway Family Mazda is an easy one to answer. “Is the Mazda CX-9 a luxury car?” As one of our top-selling crossover SUVs, the Mazda CX-9 is unmistakably a luxury car from the sleek lines of its exterior and its nimble handling to its plush interior. Considering the CX-9 is also affordably priced and offers the utmost in comfort, convenience, technology, and safety, it’s easy to see why the Mazda CX-9 is a top pick among drivers looking for an SUV that has it all.

Built for Comfort

As Mazda’s flagship three-row midsize crossover SUV, the CX-9 sets the standard for luxury across its five trim options in the 2021 lineup – Sport ($34,160), Touring ($35,950), Carbon Edition ($41,280), Grand Touring ($42,140), and Signature ($46,805). Whether you choose the Sport base model or opt for the luxurious Signature trim, you’ll see that Mazda pulled out all the stops to make the CX-9 their most comfortable and luxurious SUV yet.

Powertrain

Let’s be honest, you can have a plush interior, but if the vehicle doesn’t handle or perform well, no amount of luxury can make it fun to drive. Mazda ensures this doesn’t happen by equipping the CX-9 with the Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter Dynamic Pressure Turbo engine that’s capable of pushing the CX-9 from 0 to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and delivers 250 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft of torque with premium fuel. Drivers can choose between front-wheel drive or the i-ACTIV all-wheel drive with Off-Road Traction Assist, both of which add to the CX-9’s nimble handling without sacrificing the fuel economy. Front-wheel drive models average 22 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway, while all-wheel drive models average 20 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway.

Interior Comfort

With Mazda making the CX-9 enjoyable to drive, the automaker turned its attention to interior comfort. The CX-9 Signature is the highest-level trim you can purchase and boasts every comfort and luxury feature imaginable. Offering seating for six, the Signature model features Nappa leather-trimmed first and second-row seats with quilting and piping accents. Both the first and second row seats are heated with additional ventilation for the front seats to keep both the driver and front passenger cool in the sultry summer heat. The steering wheel and the shift knob are also wrapped in leather and, to add even more comfort, Mazda added a heating option to the steering wheel to keep the driver’s hands warm.

In addition to offering heated captain’s chairs in the second row, the CX-9 Signature gives drivers the option to use the third row for passengers or fold it with a 50/50 split to haul cargo. Additional interior amenities include power windows with one-touch down and up technology, three-zone automatic climate control with a pollen filter to ensure the interior cabin air is clean, and power door locks with speed-sensing auto-lock. The Signature also features front and rear door courtesy lights, a remote fuel door release, a rear window defogger with a timer, overhead LED accent lighting, a hands-free rear power liftgate with a programmable height adjustment, and a power sliding glass moonroof that gives drivers and passengers a clear view of the sky.

Stay Connected, Stay Safe

The Mazda CX-9’s innovative technology that extends from its connectivity features to its driver-assistance and safety suite is another reason why the SUV is at the top of the luxury market. At the heart of the model’s connectivity is the 10.25-in center display that houses the Mazda Infotainment System. The system offers a multi-function Commander control that gives drivers access to apps like navigation, messages, music, and more. The system also recognizes voice command, can read and respond to text messages, offers Pandora compatibility, and includes the 911 automatic emergency notification system and Mazda Connected Services.

So, what makes Mazda’s Connected Services so special? Accessible by the MyMazda smartphone app, Connected Services gives drivers more control over their vehicle at their fingertips. Through the app, drivers can remotely start the CX-9, lock and unlock its doors, access vehicle reports, locate the vehicle on a map, and monitor the fuel, odometer, and other metrics with the touch of a button.

The CX-9’s luxury features extend beyond its connectivity to its Bluetooth capability, wireless charging station, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and its high-definition radio. It also boasts the Mazda Navigation System as well as trial subscriptions to SiriusXM Satellite Radio and SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, the latter of which gives drivers up-to-date information on traffic, weather, sports, and more. These features are made even better with the crystal clear sound coming from the 12-speaker Bose Centerpoint Surround System.

Safety

The CX-9 is packed with safety and driver-assistance features that are designed to give drivers confidence and peace of mind when they get behind the wheel. This technology includes advanced airbags and seatbelts as well as a suite of features like the Tire Pressure Monitoring System that ensures all four tires on the CX-9 have enough air and are ready for use. Other more advanced features include Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control, Trailer Stability Assist, and Roll Stability Control, all of which help the driver maintain control over the vehicle at all times.

The CX-9’s safety features don’t stop there and include a rearview camera as well as leading technology like Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Smart Brake Support with Collision Warning, Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go. What makes these features so remarkable? The Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection detects pedestrians and vehicles in the path of the CX-9 day or night and alerts the driver accordingly. If the driver fails to apply the brakes, the system engages the brakes to prevent the collision or minimize the impact.

Mazda’s Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go is another unique feature on the CX-9 and allows drivers to maintain a set speed and a set distance from the traffic ahead. The system monitors the traffic ahead and automatically slows or stops the CX-9 accordingly. This is extremely helpful during daily commutes or when navigating busy highways.
