The Mazda CX-5 is a beautifully designed compact SUV with a lot to offer, providing you with a great ride that is lots of fun on the road. When you head here to your favorite Mazda dealership near Tomball looking for a CX-5, however, you’ll quickly discover that you have eight different trim levels to choose from for this sporty SUV. That’s enough to overwhelm just about anyone; trying to look at all of them and what they each offer can make things even more confusing. Fortunately, understanding what each brings to the road isn’t as difficult as it might seem at first, especially when you choose a dealership like ours with friendly people ready to help with everything you need. Today, we’re going to briefly go over all eight trims for the 2025 Mazda CX-5 to help figure out which one is right for you.

CX-5 2.5 S

Kicking things off, we have the 2.5 S, which is the starting trim that gives us the standard features many of these other trims build upon. The 2.5 S comes with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that provides 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, which is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. One of our favorite things about the CX-5 is that i-ACTIV all-wheel drive (AWD) is standard, ensuring you get excellent traction and control in all kinds of weather and road conditions. Mazda provides 17-inch wheels on the 2.5 S, along with LED headlights, daytime running lights, and a selection of several exterior colors. Inside, you’ll find remote keyless entry with push-button start, standard air conditioning, and six-way manual front seats.

CX-5 2.5 S Select

The 2.5 S Select trim takes everything we love about the standard features of the 2025 Mazda CX-5 and builds upon them. You’ll find the same engine and performance here, along with many similar exterior features, though the 2.5 S Select has rear privacy glass and additional exterior colors available, including Mazda’s iconic Soul Red Crystal Metallic. Mazda provides numerous upgrades and enhancements inside the S Select, including an advanced keyless entry system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and leatherette-trimmed seats rather than the standard cloth seating. You also get a six-way power driver’s seat in this trim, plus heated front seats. A 10.25-inch infotainment display is standard in every CX-5, but this model has a six-speaker sound system rather than the four-speaker audio found in the 2.5 S trim.

CX-5 2.5 S Preferred

The 2.5 S Preferred continues to build on what comes standard, giving you more comfort and luxury features than the previous two trims. For example, this option comes with a power rear liftgate with programmable height adjustment to make loading and unloading the back of your SUV easier, while previous trims have a manual rear liftgate instead. Inside the 2.5 S Preferred, you’ll find an auto-dimming rearview mirror along with a power sliding-glass moonroof that allows for a gorgeous view of the sky overhead. An eight-way power driver’s seat, six-way power front passenger seat, and leather-trimmed seating enhance the interior.

CX-5 2.5 S Carbon Edition

The Carbon Edition has numerous differences inside and out, though you might miss some of them at first glance. Hard to miss are the large and impressive 19-inch wheels of this trim; you also get a distinct Gloss Black finish on the front grille, exclusive Polymetal Gray Metallic exterior color, and black side mirrors (most trims have body-color side mirrors). Inside, the Carbon Edition is much the same as the 2.5 S Preferred, with a few stylistic differences. You’ll find a red leather interior in this trim with red stitching at numerous spots, along with a 10-speaker Bose sound system and a wireless phone charger.

CX-5 2.5 S Premium Plus

If you like the standard engine and want the finest features possible, then this is the trim to check out. The 2.5 S Premium Plus comes with LED daytime running lights and LED combination tail lights, along with an Adaptive Front-lighting System for enhanced visibility at night. This trim has automatic power-folding side mirrors and 19-inch wheels, along with Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) with Sport and Off-road modes to enhance traction in different conditions. Inside, the Premium Plus has paddle shifters on the steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, and ventilated front seats to keep you cool during summers in Tomball. It also features a seven-inch LCD meter display, rather than the standard 4.6-inch screen, and a windshield-projected Active Driving Display to take cool tech features even further.

CX-5 2.5 Carbon Turbo

For enhanced performance in your SUV, this is the place to start: the 2.5 Carbon Turbo trim comes with a 2.5L turbocharged engine that delivers 256 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque when you use 93 octane gas. This is still paired with a six-speed automatic, plus you get i-ACTIV AWD along with the Mi-Drive system found in the Premium Plus trim. Gloss Black details make the Carbon Turbo model stand out beautifully compared to previous trims, plus it’s available in an exclusive Zircon Sand Metallic exterior color. Inside, you’ll find a beautifully appointed cabin with the Bose sound system, the seven-inch driver display, and an exclusive Terracotta with Black leather interior that goes perfectly with its distinct exterior color.

CX-5 2.5 Turbo Premium

Our penultimate option for the 2025 Mazda CX-5, the 2.5 Turbo Premium, beautifully combines bold performance with sophisticated details inside and out. It has the same engine as the previous (and next) trim for a powerful ride and excellent overall capabilities. You’ll find automatic power folding side mirrors on this trim, plus it’s available in a wide range of exterior colors, including Jet Black Mica and Soul Red Crystal Metallic. Inside, you get a heated steering wheel (not something you’ll likely use too often in Tomball, but it can be handy), plus a black leather interior with a black cloth headliner for added style.

CX-5 2.5 Turbo Signature

Finally, the Turbo Signature trim represents the pinnacle of performance, luxury, and sophistication for the 2025 Mazda CX-5. On the outside, you’ll quickly notice distinct details such as a unique front grille with Gunmetal finish plus body-color lower bumpers, side rocker moldings, and wheel arches; this trim also has an exclusive Signature badge on the outside. Looking inside, we find a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, LED illumination for the visor vanity mirrors and glove compartment, and more unique LED lighting throughout. The Turbo Signature has exclusive Caturra Brown Nappa leather-trimmed seating, ventilated front seats, and genuine layered wood trim for an added touch of style. You even get built-in navigation included with this trim to help you get around Tomball.

The Perfect Compact SUV for Tomball Drivers

While eight different trim levels can seem like a lot at first glance, once you take a close look at what each one offers, it’s easy to see why Mazda has set things up this way. To help you decide which one is right for you, first, choose the kind of performance you want since five trims have the standard engine, and three options come with the enhanced performance of the more powerful turbocharged engine. From there, you can consider the exterior and interior details and features that matter most to you, as well as the kind of styling you want since some things are exclusive to certain trims. Once you bring all of those things together, then you should have a good sense of a trim or two that will work best for you; then, all you have to do is take one for a test drive to see what you think. That’s where we come in, and we’re happy to answer any questions you might have and make sure you find the Mazda CX-5 that you’ve been looking for.
