The all-new fourth-generation 2019 Mazda3 Sedan that’s available today at the Houston Mazda dealership might not look exactly like the auto show concept it's based on, but it's not far from that stunning show-stopper. With a new design and new engines, the all-new Mazda3 attempts to show there's still more to life than just crossovers these days.

When you check it out the all-new 2019 Mazda3 Sedan at a dealership like the Mazda dealer in Houston, you’ll notice the Mazda3 family is divided into what almost appears to be two separate cars, the sedan and the hatchback. The 2019 Mazda3 Sedan is an all-new model with new styling and a new engine, although its styling isn't a total departure from its predecessor.

The model range is also different this year, with the Mazda coming in a base model and three upgrade packages, which might be considered to be four different trim levels. The lineup consists of the base Mazda3 Sedan, the Select Package, the Preferred Package and the Premium Package.

Under the hood of all four versions of the new sedan is a new Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, that develops 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that sends the power to your choice of the front or all four wheels. Many of the all-new Mazda3 models are available with all-wheel drive, and that’s new for a car in this class.

Apart from a couple of notable exceptions, the Mazda3 is one of the few compact cars to offer all-wheel drive. Mazda’s predictive all-wheel-drive system is available on all models other than the base. The all-wheel-drive system is particularly suited to navigating snow-covered pavement as it's capable of making changes to the torque distribution predictively when needed to eliminate wheel-spin completely.

Even the affordable, entry-level model is very nicely equipped in its standard form. Standard features include air conditioning, push-button start, Bluetooth connectivity and audio streaming, an eight-speaker audio system, 16-inch alloys, a rearview camera, and a much improved 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Select models add larger 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, leatherette-trimmed seats, auto headlights and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

The Preferred Package comes with a premium 12-speaker Bose audio system, heated front seats, satellite radio and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with power-adjustable lumbar support and a 2-position memory.

The Premium Package comes with a power moonroof, a head-up display, perforated leather sports seats and lots more.

Mazda doesn’t ask buyers to spend extra money to get the most advanced safety features, as most models come standard with a pretty robust set of safety equipment. Select models and higher come with blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, smart brake support, driver attention alert, Mazda radar cruise control with stop & go, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist and high beam control. The NHTSA gave the 2019 Mazda3 Sedan it’s highest rating of five stars for overall safety. The IIHS gave the Mazda3 its top score of Good, and named it one of its 2019 Top Safety Pick models.
