If you are interested in getting behind the wheel of an SUV that brings unbridled style and a responsive, fun drive experience, you are going to love the Mazda CX-5. The Mazda CX-5 is a top contender for one of the sportiest compact crossover SUVs you will be able to find. Luckily, you can find the Mazda CX-5 right here at Parkway Family Mazda in Kingwood, Texas.

The Mazda CX-5 is one of our favorite crossover SUVs because it retains the responsive steering and incredible balance that Mazda cars are so well known for. Their brand is famous for tight turning, luxurious cars built for drivers with love for speed and the thrill of maximum handling. The Mazda CX-5 still delivers that while still being a great SUV with tons of room, a suite of enjoyable and advanced infotainment features, and safety innovations to keep you and everyone on board in good hands.

With the 2021 model, the CX-5 brings some great features that further enhance what we love about driving a Mazda with G-Vectoring Control, as well as spectacular exterior styling and interior finishes. These fine touches provide a premium model, but with pricing that keeps it competitive with some of the more mainline competition. Mazda has caught our attention, and the CX-5 deserves a closer look at what it brings to the table in 2021.

Favorite Features in 2021

One of the key features we fell in love with in the new 2021 Mazda CX-5 model is the G-Vectoring Control Plus. Whether you enjoy the thrill and feeling of control on the road taking tight corners with confidence, or just appreciate a finely-tuned piece of advanced engineering, this control system will definitely give you that rush of excitement.

Across all trims and levels, the 2021 Mazda CX-5 comes fully loaded with the G-Vectoring Control Plus. This system allows you to drive confidently despite the SUVs' larger size, giving you handling comparable to that of a smaller sports car. It makes the driving experience incredible and kinetic. This is possible with the G-Vectoring Control Plus as the system makes subtle torque reductions and brake applications. This helps the CX-5 SUV go through corners like a sports car and make you feel like a stunt driver.

Another one of our favorite features is actually a trim level. Everyone loves limited editions, and the Carbon Edition for the 2021 Mazda CX-5 is a show stopper that we just have to talk about. It is fairly commonplace now for model trims to include a limited edition with special exterior paint options, interior styling, and a total package that demands attention. However, the Carbon Edition takes this common trend to the next level.

For the Carbon Edition, the exterior comes sporting a very unique and subdued Polymetal gray that isn't too sinister but is very classy and reserved. What is blacked out are the grille and the unique 19-inch alloy wheels, which provide that covert finish to make it stand out from the other options available. The interior is really where we fell in love with the Carbon edition. The high-quality red or black leather seats take the premium interior into the luxury zone, and the leather-wrapped steering wheel will make you feel like a high-class customer every time you sit behind the wheel. All of this combines flawlessly with an already sharp and comfortable interior design that is elegant and modern while still having all the bells and whistles you expect to be standard in an SUV.

Performance Highlights in 2021

SUVs have to perform well in a lot of different environments. From cross country road trips to camping expeditions to the neighborhood birthday party circuit. This class of vehicle is so popular because of the incredible versatility it is capable of, and the 2021 Mazda CX-5 delivers. From under to hood is the beating heart of an adaptable machine ready for whatever gets thrown your way. The Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trims are powered by a 2.5L SKYACTIV-G engine. While this engine isn't huge, it does provide drivers with 187 horsepower, which is more than enough to pony up on the highway. It also gives 186 lb-ft of torque, which is excellent for this class of engine.

The new CX-5 Carbon Edition also has the naturally aspirated 2.5L engine option, but you also have the available option to opt for the turbocharged engine that comes standard in the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature trims. This turbo cranks out 250 horsepower with high octane fuel, which will add some satisfying kick to the CX-5 when you put the pedal down. The turbocharged 2.5L also gets a fantastic 320 lb-ft of torque, which is what you are going to need if you plan on using the CX-5 to haul any kind of trailers or heavier loads or if you plan on going over any kind of treacherous terrain.

For an SUV, the 2021 Mazda CX-5 actually has some excellent fuel economy numbers. For drivers who are always looking to save that extra dollar, this can be a big deal. The basic 2.5L SKYACTIV-G engine is rated for up to 25 MPG city and 31 MPG highway. Opting for all-wheel drive will give you slightly less efficiency in exchange for greater traction. The turbocharged engine also scores surprisingly well given its power, coming in at 23 MPG city and 28 MPG highway. The differences are fairly small, and overall the engine performance of the 2021 Mazda CX-5 will more than satisfy any driver looking for both efficiency and power.
